The province’s Support Our Troops licence plate will be available to purchase starting Wednesday morning.

The commemorative plate bears artwork titled ‘Fallen Comrades of the PPCLI’, which is a tribute to the first four soldiers who died during Canada’s mission in Afghanistan. All four soldiers were members of Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry based in Alberta.

The plate also includes the symbolic Yellow Ribbon.

“Albertans appreciate the dedication and sacrifice of Canada’s service men and women who put their lives on the line as they stand up for the rights and freedoms of Canadians and people around the world,” said Service Alberta Minister Doug Griffiths.

“This commemorative licence plate will be an important source of support for the military community in Alberta,” said Commodore Mark Watson, Director General at Canadian Forces Morale and Welfare Services. The funds from this initiative will help meet the extraordinary and unique needs of military members and their families.”

“As Albertans, we are humbled by the contributions of current and former members of the Canadian Armed Forces,” added Heather Klimchuk, Minister of Culture. “The Government of Alberta is honoured to offer this new licence plate as a way to demonstrate our appreciation and… give back to Alberta’s men and women in uniform and their families.”

The latest licence plate design complements Alberta’s veterans’ licence plates, which feature a poppy to honour former and current members of the Canadian Armed Forces.

The province is currently working on a new design for Alberta licence plates, which will be available next spring.
