UPDATE: Highway 63 open again following fatal head-on collision

EDMONTON – Traffic is flowing once again on Highway 63. The northern Alberta highway was closed in both directions Monday afternoon after a fatal head-on collision between a pick-up truck and a gravel truck.

Wood Buffalo RCMP say it happened around 2 p.m., about 190 kilometres north of the Atmore junction.

Police say the pick-up was heading north when it crossed over the centre line, colliding head-on with the southbound gravel truck.

The 66-year-old Ontario man driving the pick-up died on scene. The driver of the gravel truck was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

The name of the victim has not been released.

Highway 63 was closed in both directions for about eight hours, while the crash was being investigated.
