The blaze occurred in an area behind Elkhart Lodge on Highway 97C after flames ignited just after 4pm.

Forest Services said crews had the fire 100 percent contained by 9pm.

It covered almost a hectare of land and took a trio of air tankers, a pair of helicopters and two ground crews to get the fire under control but, officials said it could have been a lot worse.

The cause of the blaze is still under investigation.
