WINNIPEG – The big, colourful rubber balls that went missing from Assiniboine Park’s children’s playground have been returned.
Three of the balls, nicknamed Skittles by park staff, went missing on Monday night. The balls weigh as much as 150 kilograms and how they were removed from the fenced and gated Nature Playground was a mystery, communications manager Laura Cabak said Wednesday.

Park security and police were tipped off about the whereabouts of the Skittles and police returned them Wednesday night, an email from Cabak said Thursday morning.

“They appear to be in good condition and will be re-installed in the Nature Playground as soon as possible,” Cabak said in the email.
She credited “the overwhelming response from both media and the public” with the successful recovery of the play features.
