WEST KELOWNA — An abandoned campfire has been determined as the cause of a forest fire in West Kelowna.
The fire broke out early Monday morning on private property above the Smith Creek subdivision.

Officials say the blaze started as a result of an unattended campfire, which sparked two spot fires — the largest being 1,400 square metres.
At the height of the fire, police knocked on doors, advising residents of the potential threat. However, no homes were evacuated.
Monday’s human caused fire and several others across the province have prompted authorities to issue a campfire ban in the Kamloops Fire Centre.
The ban goes into effect tomorrow.
