CALGARY – A construction worker was injured Monday morning after a concrete retaining wall collapsed into the site he was working in.
The collapse occurred around 10:00a.m. in the 2200 block of 28 Avenue S.W. Two men were building wooden forms for the foundation of a new home when the wall fell over.
The wall pushed the form on top of one man. The worker was transported to hospital but sustained only minor injuries.
The collapse has left the next door neighbour in a difficult position since her only way into her home is the side door.
The City Safety Response Team has ordered engineering reports before work can continue.
“A stop work notice has been issued, the contractor is in the process of putting up the remainder of the fencing to make it safe and we’ve also instructed him to obtain a professional engineers review prior to any repairs of the wall and occupational health and safety has to give approval” says David McKinnon, City of Calgary building inspector.
The neighbouring homeowner is worried about her own foundation. The city says the stability of the neighbouring homes foundation will be tested.
