Two injured, one arrested after gunfire at St. Catharines flea market

ST. CATHARINES, Ont. – Two people are injured, one man is under arrest and Niagara police are looking for another man after gunshots were fired during an armed robbery at a St. Catharines, Ont., flea market.

Police say two or more men started smashing display cases and trying to steal merchandise from a vendor on Sunday afternoon.

One of the men pointed a handgun at people in the market jammed with an estimated 200 shoppers, including children and the elderly.

One person stepped in and challenged the gunman and during a struggle other people joined in.

One man was shot during the struggle and he remains in serious but stable condition.

A second man received minor injuries and was released from hospital.

The suspect was held for police while the other suspect fled.

Police are looking for a man in his mid 20’s, medium build, tanned skin, wearing a grey hoodie, bandana and sunglasses.
