WEST KELOWNA–Westside Road has made the “worst roads in BC list” again this year, according to an online BCAA poll.
Improvements are coming for a small section of the road, but at a cost: Road closures and daily delays.
“We are proposing two 2-hour closures to facilitate blasting. It’s a big disruption,” says Carl Walton, project manager with the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure.

At a public open house held Thursday night at the Wilson Landing Firehall, there was no opposition to the plan to fix a 800 metre section of the road.
Under the plan, the road will be widened to include paved shoulders and a roadside barrier. Ditch widening and slope protection is also part of the plan.
The upgrades will bring the speed limit to 70 kilometres per hour.
If all goes as planned, work will go out to tender this month. Construction will begin in the fall and continue for one full year.
