UPDATE: Crews say the fire is under control. A team of 20 firefighters will remain on scene overnight. More crews will arrive Thursday morning to reassess the situation.
A forest fire near Osoyoos that fire crews say was “definitely” human caused spread quickly on Wednesday.
The fire broke out mid-Wednesday afternoon near Old Richter Road, south of Spotted Lake.

A half a dozen homes were in immediate danger. Residents took it upon themselves to try and protect their property, using sprinklers and hoses to help ward off the fire.
More than a dozen fire fighters are on scene and more crews are on route.
There are also five air tankers and two helicopters attacking the blaze.
At its height, the fire was ten hectares in size.
Officials say the fire is “displaying aggressive behavior”.
So far, there’s no word on the cause.
