Running back Jerome Messam signs with the Roughriders

REGINA – The Saskatchewan Roughriders signed running back Jerome Messam on Wednesday and added defensive back Ciante Evans to their practice roster.

The six-foot-three 245-pound Messam is a four-year CFL veteran.

The 29-year-old Toronto native had 565 rushing yards on 121 carries last season with the Montreal Alouettes.

Messam had an all-star season with the Edmonton Eskimos in 2011.

He rushed for 1,057 yards and was named the CFL’s Most Outstanding Canadian.

In 59 career regular-season games with B.C., Edmonton and Montreal, Messam has 1,882 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns on 381 carries while adding 698 receiving yards on 71 catches.

Evans, 21, joined the Riders after spending four seasons with the University of Nebraska Cornhuskers.
