New bike lanes to open up on Simcoe Street

TORONTO – New downtown bike lanes are set to officially open on Simcoe Street today.

City staff say new signals will be tested throughout the morning and cyclist can expect to use the corridor by noon Wednesday.

The lanes are part of a larger pilot project that includes two line painted markings on the pavement serving as barriers.

These will also be installed on Richmond and Adelaide by the end of July.

Officials will also put up new signs that explicitly warn drivers that parking in the bike lanes will land them a $150 fine.
