OTTAWA – The Canadian Air Transport Security Authority announced nearly $2 billion in new contracts on Monday for security screening services at Canadian airports for the next five years.
Garda Security Screening Inc. (TSX:GW) won the most valuable contact for the central region, which includes designated airports in Ontario, worth up to $652.1 million over five years.

The contracts will run from Nov. 1, 2011, to March 31, 2017.
G4S Secure Solutions (Canada) Ltd. will be responsible for the Pacific region, which includes B.C. and the Yukon, in a contract worth up to $416.2 million, while Aeroguard Company Ltd. will cover the Prairie region, including Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and the Northwest Territories, in a deal worth up to $431.6 million.

Securitas Transport Aviation Security Ltd. will cover the East region, which includes designated airports in Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, Newfoundland and Labrador and Nunavut, under a contract worth $481.7 million.
CATSA is responsible for the screening of airline passengers and others as well as their personal belongings at airports.
The agency is also responsible for controlling access to restricted areas at airports.
