Motorists are being forced to wait for more than one hour to pay the bridge tolls on the new A-25 highway linking Laval to Montreal.

The bridge opened in May but already the fees to cross, plus long waits are frustrating many people.

There are no toll stations, only cameras.

An electronic photo is taken of licence plates and motorists are sent a bill in the mail.

The problem is the prices range depending on the time of day and vehicle (car or truck).

In addition to the toll, there’s a $5.00 administration fee that each motorist has to pay each time they cross.

For instance, a car crossing outside of rush hour will have to pay $1.80 plus $5.00 transaction fee for a total of $6.80.

Motorists can buy a sticker with an electronic chip built into it, and be billed automatically.

However, those motorists will have to put down a $50 minimum into an account to have the fee withdrawn.

The system is frustrating many users.

Roughly 30,000 vehicles cross every weekday – more than what officials expected.
