Executive committee to discuss transit discounts for low-income earners

TORONTO – Toronto’s executive committee will examine a report today that would allow low-income earners to purchase transit fares at a discounted price.

A study group was establish last year to look at options to achieve “transit affordability” in the city and to develop a framework with key recommendations.

The staff report called “Toronto Transit Fare Equity” has yet to determine the full financial impact or funding model required to implement the plan.

If voted forward, the report will then go to council July 8 for further analysis with a final decision on the matter to come sometime in late 2015.

A completed “Policy Framework” will present financial impacts for the 2017 budget cycle, to coincide with implementation of PRESTO throughout the TTC.
