It’s one e-card you probably don’t want to receive.
The BC Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC) has partnered with inSPOT, a U.S. based website that allows people diagnosed with an STI or HIV to notify their past sex partners via e-card.
Visitors to the website can select one of six e-cards with messages such as “I got screwed while screwing, you might have too,” “Going through my address book and you’re on the list,” or “Sometimes there are strings attached.”

Along with a personal message, the e-card advises the recipient to go get tested for STIs and HIV, along with a link to the inSPOT website where they can find local testing locations.
The e-card can be sent anonymously to up to six people at a time and are available in English, French and Spanish.
According to the BCCDC, inSPOT is not intended to replace existing partner notification services, but as an additional option for people who know their partners’ e-mail addresses.
The website is already in use in Ottawa, Toronto and across the U.S.
The operator of inSPOT, Internet Sexuality Information Services, says no information will be collected or shared with any public or private agency. However, the website is subject to U.S. law.
