VANCOUVER – People living in Kelowna have dubbed a local black bear ‘Yogi’ and it seems like the name is a perfect fit, especially after he was caught on surveillance camera at a local retreat.
Yogi isn’t taking picnic baskets, unlike his cartoon namesake, but he is reaching right into a refrigerator to take out some tasty frozen items. The fridge is kept outside and the owners had been noticing regular thefts of food happening.
That’s when they decided to have the camera installed.
They aren’t angry with Yogi, but say they will be getting rid of the refrigerator so that he won’t be tempted to visit anymore.
“Some taquitos were gone, some perogies and cream cheese,” said Sandy Lewis, owner of the camp.
Her husband Tom said Yogi was obviously looking for some favourite items, adding that Yogi even went after the ice cream.
