KELOWNA, B.C. – A Kelowna mother whose own frustration with the education system prompted her to home school has set up a learning resource website for Central Okanagan families.
Michelle Kapelle created www.learneasilytogether.com to link families and educators with resource materials and learning assistants like tutors.
Kapelle came forward after seeing the story of a 9-year-old Vernon boy with similar learning struggles she witnessed in her own kids over the last decade.
While she does not believe the struggling student should be held back, Kapelle believes he could benefit from connecting with other families and assistants in the Okanagan.
School District #23 Superintendent Hugh Gloster says holding kids back has adverse outcomes according to research. Failing kids twice results in more than a 90% chance of them dropping out before graduation.
