Portion of “lovelocks” bridge collapses in Paris

TORONTO –  Perhaps it was too much love. A small section of Paris’ fame “lovelocks” bridge collapsed Sunday.

According to the BBC, a two-and-a-half-metre section of the Pont des Arts bridge collapsed under the weight of the growing number of padlocks left by couples.

Lovers attached the locks to the 155-metre long bridge as a symbol of their unbreakable bond.

The British broadcaster reported the bridge was evacuated and was shut down for several hours.

No injuries were reported.

In February, two Americans living in Paris launched a No Love Locks campaign claiming the weight of the locks is putting the structural integrity of the city’s architecture at risk, The Guardian reported.

New York City officials have removed hundreds of locks from the Brooklyn Bridge over safety concerns.
