EDMONTON – One person is in hospital after a wild and dangerous police chase in Edmonton’s north end.
It started at around 11:30 p.m. Thursday when a police patrol car was on Anthony Henday Drive and was passed by a black Dodge truck travelling in excess of 180 km/h.
Police tried to stop the truck, but the driver did not pull over, and a criminal flight ensued.
However, after the truck entered a construction area, police ended the pursuit.
Police say the driver continued to speed and almost hit a pedestrian at 129 Street and Fort Road.
The truck continued westbound on Yellowhead Trail where it hit another vehicle, but did not stop. No one in the other vehicle was injured.
Air 1, the police helicopter, located the truck heading west.
The Dodge rear-ended another vehicle on the on-ramp for Highway 60 and Yellowhead Trail, and flew over a ridge before rolling twice.
The driver was taken to hospital, but the nature of his injuries are unknown.
The 49-year-old man was charged with Criminal Flight, Dangerous Driving, two counts of Failing to Remain at the scene, and not having a license.
