TORONTO – The Toronto Transit Commission Board will examine today whether to eliminate a number of streetcar stops to help alleviate congestion and move vehicle traffic more smoothly on city roads.
A staff report recommends removing certain stops that are “unnecessarily close together” which will make streetcar services faster and reduce customer journey times.

The proposal includes a plan to relocate 20 stops to nearby signals or pedestrian crossover and to remove all Sunday stops.
Regular stops which are less than 200 metres from an adjacent stop will be taken out as well. TTC staff have concluded that streetcar stops should be 250 to 350 metres apart.
The stops that will be moved to a nearby signal or crossover should be completed by the end of the year, as well as the removal of all Sunday stops.
All other stop removals will take place in 2015.
