Liberal MPP Teresa Piruzza won in 2011, defeating the NDP candidate by over 3,500 votes. The riding was previously held by Sandra Pupatello, who had held a seat in the Windsor area since 1995.

5.2% of the riding’s population said they were Muslims in the 2011 census, the highest number in Ontario.
