Geography

Sandwiched between Ajax-Pickering and Oshawa, this riding includes all of Whitby and the parts of Oshawa surrounding of the airport and north of Winchester Road.

History

PC Deputy Minister Christine Elliot was re-elected by over 7,500 votes in 2011, defeating Liberal candidate Elizabeth Roy. She was first elected in a 2006 byelection, replacing her late husband Jim Flaherty, who went on to federal politics after holding a riding in Whitby since 1995.

By the numbers

The median income of $34,459 is the sixth-highest in Ontario, and the highest in the Durham area. English is the first language of 83.9% of people.

This riding has stayed in Flaherty/Elliot family for nearly 20 years. Barring a PC disaster, Whitby-Oshawa is likely to reelect Elliot.
