Son charged with murder of father in Delta’s first homicide of 2014

Delta police have charged a man in connection to the murder of his father in the municipality’s first homicide of 2014.

44-year-old Richard Maranda has been charged with first degree murder. His father, 72-year-old Frederick Maranda, was found dead in his Tsawwassen home Sunday evening.

Maranda was arrested later that day and remains in custody. He is scheduled to be in Surrey Provincial Court later today.

In 2003 a Richard Maranda appeared in Surrey Provincial Court for aggravated assault, but was deemed not criminally responsible due to a mental disorder.
