Geography

A riding running from west of Ottawa to northern Ontario, this district includes all of Renfrew County along the Ottawa River, the eastern half of Algonquin Provincial Park and the area to its north and south.

History

The riding has been held by PC MPP John Yakabuski since 2003. He has increased his margins of victory from 1.4% in 2003 to a whopping 54.8% last election. Prior to Yakabuski, the seat was held by Liberal stalwart MPP Sean Conway, who held the riding (and the previous district of North Renfrew) from 1975 to 2003, when he retired.

By the numbers

83% of people identified as 3rd generation Canadians or older last census, the second highest number in southern Ontario. The riding is the largest in southern Ontario, at 11,452 square kilometres.
