Rihanna breaks phone, donates cash to L.A. cops

TORONTO — While attending the NBA playoff game between the Oklahoma City Thunder and Los Angeles Clippers on May 9, pop star Rihanna accidentally broke L.A. Police Commission president Steve Soboroff’s phone while trying to take a selfie.

The singer dropped the phone on the court, cracking the screen.

Rihanna felt badly and wanted to make up for her mistake, so she tweeted an apology and said she was donating $25,000 to the L.A. Police Foundation, an organization that supports officers.

To raise more donations, Soboroff asked Rihanna to autograph the back of the broken phone, which he is selling on eBay.
