Ted Chudliegh was elected to his fifth term last election, defeating Liberal candidate Indira Naidoo-Harris by just over 3,000 votes. He was first elected in 1995 and has won by margins as large as 21,000 votes and as small as 1,500 votes. Prior to 1995, Liberal and NDP candidates had won the similarly shaped Halton North in 1987 and 1990, respectively.
By the numbers
At $38,709, it has the highest median income in not only Ontario, but any federal riding in Canada. Sixty-two per cent of people over 15 are married, the second highest number in Ontario. The 2011 census reported it grew by 33.9 per cent between 2006 and 2011 – and with 203,437 people, became the second largest riding in Ontario.
