On June 12, voters head to the polls in the 2014 Ontario election. Learn more about the candidates and political history of the riding of Etobicoke Centre.
Candidates
Liberals: Yvan Baker Progressive Conservatives: Pina Martino NDP: Chris Jones Green: George Morrison
Geography
The riding is – not surprisingly – located in the centre of Etobicoke and encompasses the area between Dixon Road and Dundas Street, excluding the parts of Eatonville east of Highway 427 and south of Burnhamthorpe Road.
History
Retiring Liberal MPP Donna Cansfield has held this riding since 2003, increasing her margins of victory in each of her three victories. Before Cansfield was elected the riding was held by the Tories’ Chris Stockwell, who was first elected in 1990 for the defunct riding of Etobicoke-West.
The riding has the oldest median age of any Toronto riding at 44.6. Fifty-three per cent of people over 15 are married here, the third most of any Toronto riding.
