Ax-wielding man lights vehicle on fire in middle of B.C. highway: RCMP

New Hazelton RCMP have arrested a man after a bizarre incident on Highway 16 near Cedarvale, B.C.

Mounties say a 39-year-old New Hazelton man allegedly lit a vehicle on fire in the middle of the highway on Sunday at around 4 p.m.

The man then started swinging an axe at passing motorists before fleeing to a nearby driveway when police arrived, RCMP say.

After a short negotiation, the man was arrested and faces charges of possession of a weapon dangerous to the public, assault with a weapon, intimidation by blocking a highway, arson and mischief.
