WATCH: B.C. doctors help children in Uganda

Six doctors and nurses from BC Children’s Hospital just returned from their fourth Pediatric Surgical Camp in Uganda.

Since these camps started in 2008, the team has performed more than 800 surgeries on Ugandan children.

About half of Uganda’s 35 million population is under the age of 15, but there is only one full-time pediatric surgeon.

The purpose of the camp is to help treat children, but also to foster education and teaching between the Canadians and Ugandans.

The team from Vancouver volunteers its time and fundraises to pay for the trip.

This year’s trip was $25,000 to cover all supplies, travel and accommodations.

They are already planning a trip back.
