GREY HIGHLANDS, Ont. – A woman and her 90-year-old father suffered serious dog bites after being attacked by their pit bull in central Ontario.
Police say the 64-year-old woman was walking towards her vehicle Wednesday in Grey Highlands, southeast of Owen Sound, when she was suddenly knocked down and viciously attacked by her dog.
Her father, who was sitting inside the vehicle at the time, went to help his daughter but he was also attacked by the dog, described as a four-year-old male pit bull-terrier cross.
The woman suffered serious multiple bites to her arms and face and was airlifted to a London hospital.
Her father, who suffered a serious bite to his forearm, was transported to a hospital in nearby Markdale, where he was treated and released.
Police officers assisted by animal control officers tried to secure the dog but police say it continued to be extremely aggressive and had to be shot for public safety reasons.
The Grey Bruce Health Unit was notified.
