EDMONTON – Calgary MLA Ric McIver officially announced his intention to run in Alberta’s PC leadership race May 7, 2014.

Here’s a look at his background:
- First elected in 2012 as the PC MLA for Calgary-Hays in “a landslide victory.”
- Named Transportation Minister after the election. Served in that capacity until December 2013, when he was named Infrastructure Minister in a Cabinet shuffle. He stepped down as minister to run for PC leadership.
- Prior to Provincial politics he served as a Calgary Alderman from 2001 to 2010.
- Ran for Mayor of Calgary in 2010 election, finished in second to Naheed Nenshi with 32 per cent of the vote.
- McIver has previously owned and operated a food distribution and marketing wholesale business.
- McIver is married to his wife Christine. The couple has four children and two grandchildren.
