Cantos unveils final design for a national music centre

Cantos has unveiled the final design for a national music centre and says it will give Calgary a cultural landmark not like anything else in the world.

"It will be a landmark for Calgary, Canada and ultimately the world in terms of what you can do, combining music, performing art and museums together", says Cantos CEO Andrew Mosker. "No one in the world has done a building like this."

The plan includes a 350 seat performance area, classrooms, and museum for the east building. A bridge complete with an open air terrace will connect the east building to a revitalized King Eddy hotel.

The project is now projected to cost 132 million dollars, 12 million more than the original estimate.

So far Cantos has raised 81 million dollars.

The plan is to have the renovated King Eddy ready in time for the Stampede’s 100th anniversary next summer.

The architect, Brad Cloepfil, hopes the entire project will be completed in 2014.

"It’s exciting. I have never been in space like that and I contend no one has been in space like that , so we are really creating something new and I can’t wait to walk through the building when its done..
