Cyclist struck and killed on Lougheed Highway

A cyclist has died after getting struck by a vehicle near Lougheed Highway and Beta Avenue in Burnaby this afternoon.

Burnaby RCMP received a call about the incident around 1:30 p.m.

Police say the cyclist entered full cardiac arrest and passed away at the scene.

It appears the cyclist was travelling along Beta Avenue and was struck by a vehicle while attempting to cross Lougheed.

The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and is cooperating with police.

The Coroner’s Service has been notified, and the Integrated Collision Analysis Team and the Traffic Unit are on scene.

Traffic in the area will be diverted until at least 5 p.m.
