Rainy weather not a deterrent for runners in Vancouver BMO marathon

Despite the rainy weather more than 16,000 runners have turned out to hit the road in the Vancouver Bank of Montreal half and full marathon this morning.

“This weather is nothing to runners, they’ve trained all winter, they’re here, they’re ready,” Charlene Krepiakevich Vancouver Marathon Executive Director, said. “It’s very exciting even though we don’t have the sunshine.”

The BMO marathon, a 42.2 km race which is in its 43rd year, draws running enthusiasts from all over the world with 48 per cent of the runners coming from outside of Canada.

Krepiakevich says that’s in part to the race being ranked by Forbes as at ‘Top 10 Destination Marathon’ twice and by CNN but she also notes that along with having a great running city, Vancouver also boasts a welcoming community.

Due to several road closures downtown for the running route, organizers suggest if you would like to head downtown to cheer on the runners to take public transit.
