Severe storms strike U.S. east coast

WATCH ABOVE: Heavy rains sent rivers and streams over their banks in Philadelphia in the United States on Thursday.

TORONTO – After days of storms in central and southern parts of the United States, it was the eastern states that had to deal with severe weather.

On Wednesday afternoon, tornado watches were issued in West Virginia and North Carolina as severe weather tore through the area. No tornadoes were reported, but there were reports of strong winds.

The storm continued to move up the coast, dumping 127 mm of rain in some parts of New York and New Jersey. Connecticut and Philadelphia also received around 120 mm of rain.

After almost a week of severe weather, most of the rain has moved out of the central, southern and eastern states.
