WINNIPEG – A military-style ammunition box sparked a bomb scare in Winnipeg’s River Heights neighbourhood Wednesday.
Officers were called to the area of Academy Road and Renfrew Street at about 1:30 p.m. An employee at a nearby business found the green steel box marked “cartridges for weapons, inert projectile.”

The police bomb unit was on scene by late afternoon, area buildings were evacuated and traffic was blocked on Academy Road in the area of Renfrew Street.
Shortly after 4 p.m. police cleared the scene and traffic returned to normal. Nothing dangerous was found in the box, police said.
