Continuous rain cause more flooding in already waterlogged Saskatchewan

<p>REGINA – A deluge of rain is causing flooding problems in Saskatchewan, where two more communities have declared states of emergency.</p> <p>The southern towns of Radville and Yellow Grass are being flooded because of what Environment Canada describes as continuous rain with embedded thunderstorms.</p> <p>The weather agency says about 71 millimetres of rain has already fallen on Yellow Grass.</p> <p>Deputy fire commissioner Colin King says many communities have been significantly challenged this spring and this rain will challenge them that much more.</p> <p>There are currently 18 communities under states of emergency due to flooding.</p> <p>In northeastern Saskatchewan, watershed authorities say work will start Saturday on hundreds of metres of berms to protect the village of Cumberland House and a neighbouring reserve.</p> <p>In the southern part of the province, highways are being washed out.</p> <p>Sgt. Paul Dawson says Highway 39 near Milestone and Weyburn are being hit particularity hard.</p> <p>”No doubt there are other areas throughout the province where this is occurring as well, so just pay attention to your surroundings when you’re driving, and drive safely,” said Dawson.</p> <p>RCMP in Coronach say they’ve seen flooding on Highway 36, just south of Willowbunch.</p> <p>Regina and Saskatoon are also seeing some intersections being submerged by rainwater, along with reports of manhole covers being dislodged by water backing up in the sewers and trees falling on power lines.</p> <p>(CJME)</p>
