WINNIPEG – The Winnipeg Blue Bombers cut non-import fullback Jon Oosterhuis on Saturday after he failed his physical with the team.
The Fergus, Ont., native signed with Winnipeg in 2002 after being released by the Calgary Stampeders, who selected him eighth overall in that year’s Canadian college draft.

The 33-year-old Oosterhuis spent the first seven years of his career on the defensive line, recording 40 defensive tackles and two sacks, before making the switch to fullback in 2009.
“It’s always a difficult decision when you have to release a player but it’s even tougher when it’s a veteran and a true professional like Jon,” Blue Bombers vice-president and general manager Joe Mack said in a statement.
The team made another roster Saturday, signing non-import receiver Kito Poblah.
The six-foot-two, 213-pound Montreal native caught 154 passes for 1,908 yards and 15 touchdowns in his career at Central Michigan University.
The Blue Bombers open training camp Sunday.
