WATCH: NASA celebrates Earth Day from orbit

TORONTO – Most of us have only been able to see Earth from above while flying. But NASA sees  Earth in a whole new light.

There are many satellites orbiting Earth, monitoring things we can see, like weather, and those that we can’t. And NASA has put some of the best images together in a video celebrating our home planet.

The video shows an animation of the satellites in orbit, the view from the International Space Station, fires, the break-up of Arctic ice, city lights at night, hurricanes, winter storms, as well as animations of soil moisture and winds, the plume from the meteor that exploded over Chelyabinsk, Russia, and the changing face of our planet.

But NASA is also encouraging people to take a “global selfie” in their Earth Right Now campaign which marks the launch of several more satellites that will be launched into Earth orbit.
