Woman dies after collision near Grande Prairie

EDMONTON – A 63-year-old woman has died after a two vehicle collision Sunday evening near Grande Prairie.

Emergency crews were called to the intersection of Highway 43 and 124 Street, near the Grande Prairie Airport, at around 9 p.m. after a crash between a car and pick-up truck.

The victim was driving the car. She was trapped inside the vehicle before being extricated by firefighters. The woman was taken to hospital where she later died.

A female passenger in the truck suffered non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of the truck was taken to hospital as a precaution.

Police say their initial reports are that the car was attempting to turn left onto Highway 43 from 124 Street when it turned into the path of the westbound pick-up truck.

The exact cause of the collision is still under investigation. However, drugs and alcohol aren’t believed to have been a factors.

The name of the victim has yet to be released.
