“French for the Future” promotes bilingualism amongst Canadian youth

MONTREAL – Promoting bilingualism amongst Canadian youth has never been so fun.

Four school boards, with 550 students from 13 Montreal high schools are taking part in the 2014 French for the Future forum at the UQÀM’s Salle Marie-Gérin-Lajoie.

The event – called Respect, Culture and Integration into Québécois Society – is all about encouraging students to learn French.

Global’s Jessica Laventure was invited as was one of the event’s special guest speakers.

The event offers many activities over the course of the entire day, including interactive quizzes on Canadian and Quebec culture and a performance from the Lester B. Pearson school board SLAM hip hop dance group.

Trilingual Québécois rapper and street artist, MONK.E is even giving a course to teach students how to rap.

The aim, according to the EMSB, is to “allow students to feel proud of being bilingual” and “strengthen their connection to the Québécois culture that surrounds them on a daily basis.”
