KANANASKIS – Kananaskis Country is celebrating Bear Days.
With more than 50 bears in the region, the plan is to educate park users about the dangers of bear encounters and how to avoid contact.
One of the biggest issues is food and with delayed summer weather, a favourite bear snack is beginning to appear – buffaloberries.
Bears like eating fruit where it grows so volunteers are cutting back buffaloberry shrubs from paths and roadsides.
Bear days programs are running at the Peter Lougheed Provincial Park visitors centre all weekend.
