REGINA – Saskatchewan’s health minister is contacting health regions to find out if nurses are being punished for voicing concerns about a program that looks for ways to reduce spending and streamline health care.
Dustin Duncan says he has not heard about nurses being sent to time-out rooms, but he says that would be pretty juvenile.
The Opposition NDP says it has heard that nurses who don’t like the program called Lean are put in a time-out room and that they’re being monitored on social media.
The Saskatchewan Union of Nurses says nurses have felt intimidated and it wants the government to protect them from recrimination.
Duncan says the deputy minister of health has sent a letter to nurses assuring the union that any worker who raises concerns will not be penalized.
The health minister also says the Public Interest Disclosure Commissioner will meet with health regions to discuss whether health workers should be covered by whistleblower legislation.
