Edmonton businessman ordered to stop promoting himself as a ‘doctor’

A man providing cosmetic laser treatments at an Edmonton clinic has been ordered to stop calling himself a doctor.

The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta has obtained a court order to stop Sukhdave Seehra of Ultra Medic Laser Skin Studio from using any terms which imply he is a medical doctor.

Earlier in the year some patients complained that they had received serious burns or scars from Seehra’s treatments.

One of those patients, Alyce Brook, received a laser treatment from Seehra to remove sun spots and tighten skin. Emergency room physicians later diagnosed her with second and third degree burns.

Several months ago Seehra told Global News that he attended University of Pecs Medical School in Hungary, as evidenced by documents displayed on his office wall at the time. However, the school confirmed he never graduated.

Global News brought this to the attention of the CPSA, which has now taken action to prevent Seehra from promoting himself as a doctor.

"We’ve got an injunction against him so he’s no longer allowed to use terms like doctor, medical doctor, dermatologist," said Kelly Eby of the CPSA. "Essentially its just in the interest of public safety."
