HALIFAX – An 18-year-old man faces charges of sexual assault and confinement after a 15-year-old girl escaped from a basement in North Preston.
RCMP initially responded to a reports of gunshots on Clarence Street around 8:50 p.m. Thursday night.
Police say an investigation revealed a 15-year-old girl had escaped from another residence on the street, where she was reportedly held in a basement and sexually assaulted for two days.
The man, who was arrested at the scene, is facing charges including sexual assault, weapons offences and unlawful confinement.
The nature of the victim’s injuries has not been released.
Another man was arrested in connection with the case in Windsor, N.S. on Friday morning, and is expected to be brought back in Halifax to face charges.
Police say the two men are known to each other, but have not revealed any possible connection to the victim.
The Halifax Regional Police-RCMP Integrated Sexual Assault Investigation Team is leading the investigation.
Police have not said if they’re looking for any other suspects or victims.
The investigation is ongoing.
