WATCH: Large new Okanagan Lake marina causes community turbulence

A large new marina being built on Okanagan Lake is stirring up controversy.

And while the project was said by Manteo to be a maximum of 172 boat slips, The Ministry of Natural Resources that approved the project at Kelowna’s Manteo Resort says the dock design was “amended from the original application design and now allows for 179 slips”.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

Nearby residents say the view and water quality at Rotary Beach will be directly affected by the new marina.

Manteo says it only has plans to build 40 slips by June, and another 20 in the fall, with at least four years before further boat slips are built.

While some question the lack of community input for the structure, the Province says it published two ads about the marina in the local paper.
