Robber hammers Vernon jeweler

VERNON — Vernon RCMP are investigating a robbery and assault at Hagemann Jewelers.

It happened just after 11 Saturday morning, when a lone male entered the jewelry store pulled out a hammer and started smashing the glass on a display case.

The owner confronted the man by swinging a baton at the suspect.

The man then struck the store owner on the head with the hammer before fleeing.

The store owner was taken to Vernon Jubilee Hospital for treatment of his injuries.

A police service dog was deployed, but was unable to get a track.

RCMP are asking for public assistance if they saw the suspect run from the store or know anything about the robbery.

The suspect is described as being 6 feet tall, with light brown hair.

He was wearing a white Halloween mask, dark sweater, dark pants and had a scarf and a fedora hat.
