LYTTON – A Canadian Railway bridge caught fire Thursday afternoon, and black smoke could be seen pouring into the sky.

CN spokesperson Warren Chandler told Global BC the fire was reported at about 2 p.m. and is located about 10-km south of Lytton.

The bridge is one of the Cisco bridges at Siska, near Lytton, and is an orange truss arch bridge, quite popular with railway fans. Chandler said there were no trains operating in the area at the time, however all CN operations have been temporarily suspended until further notice.

The Lytton fire department responded to the fire, but Chandler stated the cause of the fire is not known and is under investigation.
