On April 12th, the Vernon Courthouse is hosting an open-house to mark its centennial year.
Construction of the building was completed in the Fall of 1914.
At the time it was built, it was the largest courthouse in the interior and the second biggest in the Province – only smaller than Vancouver’s Courthouse.

The historic building is a source of great local pride, not only for its appearance and longevity, but also because of how it was built.
The granite used to construct its walls came from a quarry on Okanagan Lake. It was then barred to the Okanagan Landing, before being carried to the site by horse and carriage.
The upcoming open-house will include a free lunch and tours of the Courthouse.
