Ron Danderfer pleads guilty to breach of trust in Victoria court

VICTORIA – Former assistant deputy minister of health, Ron Danderfer, pleaded guilty to breach of trust charges in court on Monday, for his part in the B.C.’s government’s project to digitize health records, known as WebMed Technology Inc.

It is alleged that Danderfer accepted rewards incentives from Abbotsford doctor, Jonathan Burns. This included the free use of Burns’ condo in Kelowna, the hiring of Danderfer’s wife, and postretirement income, in exchange for throwing business Burns’ way.

Burns pleaded guilty to paying a reward and providing an advantage to government officials earlier this year, but received a three-year suspended sentence and 100 hours of community service.

Former health authority official James Taylor is also facing charges of fraud and breach of trust relating to the incident.
